Berries on Bryan Station

When I first joined this CSA I did it because I wanted to support locally grown food - especially after finding out that so many vendors at the Lexington Farmers Market were shipping in fruits and vegetables from OUT of state (from Florida, Georgia and California). Why on earth would I want to spend my food dollars on produce like that, might as well just go to Kroger if I want "trucked-in" food.

So Berries on Bryan Station was a great discovery for me - I can spend my produce dollars locally AND get some of the best lettuce, tomatoes and potatoes (I love the "Blue potatoes") I have ever eaten.

I'm amazed at the volume of produce I get, not to mention the massive amounts of wonderful basil we used to make loads of home made pesto last season. To be honest, I really didn't know much about cooking zucchini and squash but after getting them in my basket, I sure did learn some new tricks. We make the most awesome marinara with them - especially when we added Gayle's delicious baby carrots, fresh garlic and green onions.

Thank you Erik and Gayle (and the Berries family) for helping me REALLY keep my vegetable dollars local!!!!
