Crown Point Ecology Center

We have been CSA shareholders at Crown Point since 2009 (and were on the waiting list for 2 years before). This is a large, well organized operation, and 25% of the harvest is donated to the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank (a bonus).

The shares include a wide variety of vegetables, from late spring lettuce, peas and green garlic, to summer's multiple varieties of tomatoes, squash, herbs, okra, eggplant, to fall harvest onions, winter squash, potatoes and root vegetables. Many, many heirloom varieties that I can't get at the grocery, or even the farmer's market (sweet potato leaves!!).

The full share is plenty for our family of four, and with pick your own and gleaning of the vines, we put away tomatoes, green beans and greens throughout the summer to last us well into winter. We also get the winter share which is the mainstay of our winter feast celebrations (Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Crown Point partners with other farms to provide supplemental shares for example, in eggs, cheese, mushrooms, and even fresh cut flowers.

The scheduled work days are well run by the staff, and time well spent to help out the farm. Weekly newsletters provide details of what to expect in your share that week, as well as what NOT to expect (with great insight into the weather and seasonal variations that make certain crops wither and others flourish greatly), recipes, and insight into running the farm, which brings me even closer to my food.

The property is beautiful to explore, including a natural labyrinth. We also appreciate that supporting this farm supports the food bank, and food education programming for children.
