Since moving back to Dousman after several years being away the one thing that I most hoped for was that sense of community that I had known as a child raised here; a community still deeply rooted in agriculture. My grandfather was a farmer who sold his produce at the end of our driveway, at busy Dousman area street corners and at the Waukesha market. My father had "Da Apple Guy" business (so named by one of my three older brothers) and sold from home as well as busy street corners just as his father did. My mother tirelessly picked berries that were sold from home as well as delivered to grocers in Waukesha County. We kids learned that our hard work reaps reward --- though we sure tried to get out of helping! Dousman has certainly changed but I can always count on the Dousman Farmers Market and its many friendly farmers with their bounty of fresh produce, flowers and crafts to help me feel truly . . .at home.
