Hawaiian Homestead Market

Two years ago (2006) this market was somewhat slow and didn't have a lot of variation, but these days it's really a hopping place! On the first Saturday of each month, extra vendors are invited in, and there is an excellent selection -- enough to do your grocery shopping for the week! On first Saturdays, in addition to the usual fare, you can get local (frozen) meats and pizza baked in a wood-fired oven. Even on off Saturdays some new vendors have begun to bring tropical fruits and locally grown tomatoes and peppers, which were unfortunately missing in the past. Veteran vendors sell poi (taro paste), goat cheese, vegetables, mushrooms, tropical flowers and orchids, unusual and interesting baked goods (try the ancho fig tart!), landscape and garden plants, jams and jellies, mochi and many other delightful products. Come for breakfast!
The market is pretty much sold out by noon, so come early.
