I've heard some of the excuses made by "traditional" produce farmers: "This is a hot, humid climate and we have too many insects." Well, other places have hot, humid climates yet they have a lot of committed organic farmers.
I think Mississippi State University should encourage Mississippi farmers to become certified organic growers and to commit to practices that sustain the soil. The government, FDA, EPA and even USDA are not going to ensure that the American people have a safe food supply and safe water sources. Farmers committed to organic farming play a major role. Paying more for organics is worth it to protect health.
