Just after Gretchen bought the current Greensleeves Farm, I purchased a full share for $500 and put in the work. We received virtually nothing in our weekly share and work. We do know that regularly the farm sold its best produce at farmer's markets.
Later, after we bailed on the CSA, we received a letter from Gretchen stating that she thought we all understood it was a "startup" and that the share we bought was an "investment." I do know the difference between an investment in a startup and a share in a CSA. One owns no equity upon paying for a share in a CSA--only the owner owns equity.
To be honest, I felt ripped off, used, and soured on the CSA experience. My $500 helped pay for the equity Gretchen sold the new owners.
I wish them luck, but I will not be back.
