Every Wednesday afternoon 3 - 6:30pm.Great products and produce from all around the Lansing area. The most consistently good market in town. You can often shop here and totally avoid the big box supermarkets, especially in the summer.ANC also has meeting spaces and a commercial kitchen for anyone wanting to make other value added products. And community outreach! If you are a beginning farmer, new to gardening, looking to start a food related business, or just want to learn something interesting, ANC has a class or two each week on a variety of subjects. All are for free or a small donation. If you have not been to ANC you are really missing out on something good on a lot of levels.Did I mention they are also a food hub?If you grow anything you can probably sell it wholesale through their exchange system.Buyers range from individuals to supermarkets to huge hospital cafeterias and restaurants. These guys are defining the local food movement the way it needs to be defined. In a word, GO!

The Allen Neighborhood Center has changed my life. I didn't know what my life was even about until I met the great people there and began to understand the importance of community and investing not only money but energy and love locally. I couldn't be happier. The Allen Neighborhood Center deserves everything there is to offer.

I am an agricultural student at Michigan State University. I went searching for a local volunteer opportunity to give me a little experience of life outside the campus. I met the direct of the Allen Neighborhood Center, Joan Nelson, who's great energy immediately made me want to be a part of whatever she was doing. Joan hooked me up with other volunteers at the center and before I knew it, I was an intern for their newly constructed community green house called "The Hunter Park Gardenhouse." Now, I am working a summer internship at a local organic farm (featuring a CSA program) that sets up at the Allen Street Farmers Market every Wednesday. I am there every Wednesday distributing the farms produce to our CSA members and experiencing the healthy change that the Lansing's Eastside is going through because of the Allen Neighborhood Center and its many outreach programs such as the farmers market and the community greenhouse/garden. Thanks! -The best from Lansing, Michigan!

ANC transforms its simple parking lot every Wednesday to become a hub of neighborhood connectivity and local support. The farmers market brightens the area with a great selection of produce and more-- you can also sign up for health programs and receive neighborhood information while you visit the farm market.

This market CARES about its neighborhood and the role it plays in the city. It's not just the great fresh produce, handmade baked good, organic meats, diverse perennials, etc.-- all presented with a smile and good advice by local farmers and vendors-- but the overarching commitment to healthy living created, fostered, and promoted by the marvelous Allen Neighborhood Center. The ANC and all its programs are a model for positive urban citizenship.

Unlike other farmers markets I have been to, the Allen St. market understands itself as an important community outreach program -- not merely a place for the relatively well-off to buy local and organic produce. Local, sustained agriculture is essential but, so, too, is building community links across traditional interest and class divisions and finding constructive ways of renewing this country's urban areas. The Allen Street Market deserves support and greater publicity because it is a model for the future.

Allen Neighborhood Center was the first farmers market in the State of Michigan to accept food stamp payments. They have the best entertainment, using local talent. They have the most organic farmer offerings. They offer their own "token" money system. And they are the most creative team of workers. In Ingham County, and Mid-Michigan -- they rule!

Lansing's Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC) is a treasured jewel two blocks from my house. Not only do they provide great community programs, but a fabulous farmer's market that continues to grow each year. Each Wednesday is an opportunity to meet up with friends, win cool (and healthy) prizes for answering health related questions, listen to live local music, sample different recipes using local food and talk to the farmer who grew your week's groceries. The ANC Farmer's Market was also the first non-profit in Michigan to be authorized for the use of EBT money (food stamps). ANC has always been focused on the health of the neighborhood, but good health is beyond education workshops and signing residents up for the Ingham County Health Plan. ANC has successfully combined the need to access healthy food while also providing a marketing opportunity for small local farmers. While this article is a little outdated (ANC has had their market in full swing for about 5 years now), it is a great summary of ANC's Farmer's Market and other healthy initiatives. http://www.communityvoices.org/Article.aspx?ID=356 ANC is the heartbeat of Lansing's eastside and continues to grow its healthy efforts. It's true - good health is contagious and the ANC Farmer's Market is dishing it up!
