Because I am buying from local vendors, which (1) keeps my money local; (2) reduces the need for large, fuel-consuming semi-trucks to be on the road, and (3) is a great way to get fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats (many fruits and vegetables are harvested the day of the market).

I support the Columbia Farmer's Market because the farmer's are there. I would rather support them than a national chain grocery store. I also prefer to by locally as opposed to food that has had to be preserved and shipped half way around the world. Oh, and the food is yummy!!

The food is always fresh, and there is nothing better than supporting local farmer's who grow lots of chemical free, healthy food. There is also a great diversity of products, lots of different peppers and unusual herbs and vegetables. I love going once or twice a week to stock up on the best produce around!

John and I love the Columbia Farmers' Market because of the abundance and freshness of the produce, the variety and quality of meat, cheese and fish and the vast array of other tasty food items available. But most of all, we love getting to meet the farmers and talking with them about their goods and the care they take in bringing such high quality food items to our town. P.S. We love buying the gorgeous plants too!!

I grew up on a farm. I know the food is much fresher than from the store where much of it is trucked in from California or elsewhere. My folks farmed for 25 years and switched to trucking the produce from CA back to the MidWest for the next 25 years. They made more money trucking than farming....sigh...

I have become more conscious of the harmful chemicals in produce, meat and chicken and feel more confident in buying food from the Farmer's Market. I also feel better knowing that the animals that are raised by local ranchers are humanely raised. I enjoy cooking so much more when I shop at the Farmer's Market; I enjoy buying vegetables I'm not familiar with and finding ways to prepare them. Columbia Farmer's Market is the BEST!

There is so much variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from at the market. It brings together a lot of people in the community by teaching and providing healthy alternatives to buying food from a store. It also tries to make sure that there is entertainment each weekend. I'm looking forward to more events that the market will include this summer when we get to taste everything it has to offer.

the Columbia Farmers market is THE ONLY saving grace for an otherwise appallingly TOXIC, racist, narrow-minded, bigoted, under-educated, obese, 'redneck' environment existing 50 years in the past. They NEED the market to evolve, hopefully promoting kindness, tolerance, and good health!

In a nutshell: Food, farmers, friends, and fun. The Columbia Farmers' Market is my one stop shop for life's simple pleasures. I owe my health to a large extent to the quality of food I can purchase at the market. I like being able to identify the farmer responsible for the food on my plate, and I like being able to thank the organic farmers for taking the extra effort to grow and produce food most responsibly. For all the right reasons!! Besides the fact that they are our largest, most diversified farmer's market, they work hard to keep the public involved, and have raised over $200,000 in private funds for a community pavilion to be built. We still need more, but this crew rocks! The $5000 would help us to accomplish those long term dreams.

The farmer's that sell at the market make their living by providing us with the very best! I have been to other markets across the state and the country with my travels and I must admit the Columbia Farmers' Market has got to be the best. The local producers with their locally grown fresh and nutritious foods are the best. The farmers are great and friendly and really enjoy growing healthy food for people who appreciate their hard work to bring their food to them. Plus the market has just about everything you would want from veggies to fruits to meats (beef, lamb, pork, chicken, buffalo and trout) to dairy (milk, cheese and eggs) to baked goods (breads, pies, cookies, granola bars and dog treats) to flowers and handmade crafts with items from their farm. The weekly entertainment is fabulous. The reltionships built from producers to consumers is fabulous. I even got one producer to grow carrots just because I asked him to. Another grew hulless pumpkins just for me. You can't get it anywhere any better than this.

I am both a farmer and shopper at CFM; we bring certified Organic produce to the market and source much of our food (what we don't raise ourselves, anyway) from our fellow farmers. It's a real producer's market; no resale allowed and about a 54 mile radius for vendors, of whom we have over 80. The variety of products available is as good as most coastal markets I've been to, especially considering the strict radius and rules. Fruits, produce, diverse meats, eggs, fish, jams, baked goods, milk, cheese, and more. I'm proud to be a part of the market and to help it keep growing.
