Produce is fresher and less expensive than supermarkets or health food stores, fun to see what's new, and we love those tamales

Lots of working class families shop at this farmer's market, and most of the vendors take food stamps. It is one of the few markets I've been to that does not feel limited to upper class people. In addition, the produce is delicious and the prices are reasonable. The fish is the best that I've been able to get anywhere in the city.

I support the La Cienega Farmers Market because it rocks!!! Quality fruits, veggies and baked goods (yum!) at fair prices. When someone cares enough to bring fresh produce all the way from the fields to my little piece of L.A. they have my unconditional support. My family members swear they can taste the difference between "store bought" and La Cienega Farmers market produce. That is all I needed to hear!

I like knowing that I haven't contributed to global warming by supporting locally-produced fruits, vegetables and other products. I like supporting independent businesses, not chains. I love the fresh produce, the friendly faces, the sense of community L.A. often lacks.

Because, I like the cost efficiency, I like that I am buying fresh healthy produce. And, I look forward to strolling around smiling and meeting other farmers market compatriots. And, I feel like I am supporting free market base businesses.

Right in the center of all that La Cienega activity is a wonderful farmer's market on Thursday evenings. Having visited markets from Pasadena to Santa Monica, this market has a great balance of vendors offering everything from fresh garlic that will melt into your pasta sauce to a variety of ethnic quisine for your evening dinner. The last evening I was there with my wife we dined on gourmet hot dogs served with roasted peppers while listening to a musician on steel drum. It's a great setting that makes you want to stay for a while. What caught my eye - wheatgrass, fresh spouts, herbs, and legumes, chilled organic juices, cut flowers at a reasonable price, a pineapple sage plant (which is thriving at home), falafel, perfect strawberries, and a great selection of organic produce for juicing.
