Hi. I'm Fr. Cassian Sibley, a Russian Orthodox priest living in Bryan. Two years ago I was the first person to write a review of the Cox Family farm. I liked it then - and I love it now. After being a customer for a year and a half, purchasing a cow share, buying half a cow for pasture fed beef, buying honey and grain, and getting most of my vegetables out of Cathy's garden - I thought that this family farm had the potential to become a truly great and even (God willing!) somewhat profitable little CSA - but to get there it needed just a little bit of outside help, especially since the garden had always been something of an afterthought and rather small. After a little soul searching - and personal budget crunching - I volunteered my services as a gardener and a beekeeper - and now I am an employee and an almost full-time gardener at the farm. The garden has been almost tripled in size and there are now 32 satisfied weekly customers. The CSA is currently almost maxed out - but there are plans to expand. Come out and visit the farm, say hello, and get your name put on the waiting list.
As I say, I am paid a little to work here now, but I remain a satisfied customer too! And since I do work here I can assure you that nothing (nothing!) goes into the garden but compost and organic natural products - pests are controlled with rotation, neem, and plant soap exclusively. Cathy Cox and I are both obsessive on the subject of sustainable and pesticide free farming. And since the area is mostly dedicated to ranching rather than farming, there is little or no chance of GMO contamination of the garden. If you want really, really clean, chemical free, petroleum free, GMO free vegetables and other food products - this farm would be a good choice.

I've known Cathy and her family for several years now. She listed on Local Harvest and I called to ask her about her farm very soon afterward. It was Leonard's granddad's farm and was at that time their dream of a different kind of life. They moved from Houston and through trial and error, they have created by hand a working farm. I doubt I could list everything I have obtained through the years--vegetables, fruit, dairy, eggs, soap, and meat. Cathy runs her business with fair prices and honesty.

I have been doing business with this farm for a year now and absolutely LOVE THEM. The milk is always Super fresh and actually lasts for weeks in my refrigerator..The garden is rambling, and inviting. You are welcomed with open arms at this farm. Cathy is eager to learn new practices all of the time, and she and Leonard are very community oriented.I cant rate this farm high enough to give them what they deserve.

This is a small new family farm with a new farmer, struggling at times but very interested in doing things right for her animals and for the land. The farm is not organic certified but uses organic farming practices and pasture/grass feeding for animals. The farmer's father died last year and she kind of took a break from farming, which is why this entry went so long without being updated. She has a rather innovative "cow share" program that I really like, and her treatment of animals is very good. Ms. Cox is charming - she will be the first to tell you that she doesn't know everything, and that she's learning, but isn't that precisely the kind of operation we locavores should get behind - someone who went into farming because she loves it and wants to do right by the animals and the land?
