I have been goin to the market for the past few months. There is a lady that sells herbs and what not from her own garden. THEN there are others selling wholesale veggies grown out of state! C'mon! In order for this to be taken seriously and to draw in visitors we need real folks like the herb lady.I do not understand how Lake Charles even allows those vendors selling commercial produce to be allowed to vend at a farmers market. Do they not understand what this movement is all about? FRESH LOCALLY GROWN PRODUCTS.

The best thing about this Farmer's Market is that there is a couple that shows up with plants (including citrus trees, fig tress, ornamentals, etc.) they started at home and are very reasonably priced.
That said, this Farmer's Market needs more farmers to show up. First there has not been a lot of vegetables there the times that I have come (and I've shown up very early and checked back at later times in the day). Second there are people (some but not all) here selling things they did not grow but bought from farms in California: a) I saw the containers in the backs of a couple of thier vehicles b) the tomatoes have the look and taste of plain old agribusiness tomatoes.
There are people in Lake Charles who are interested in eating locally-grown food. If you are a local farmer, please come--you'll "clean up."

I grew up in a rural area of Ga. and always had fredh veggies. When we moved to Lake Charles 15 years ago I craved fresh veggies. When I saw the ad for our new market I was so excited. The first time I went it was GREAT!! The people are great and the produce is outstanding. Our farmers work hard to grow and bring to market only top quality produce, I know because I try to go every Sat. (Rain or Shine they are always there). In addition, anytime my family or friends come into town it is the first stop on Sat.
Final words: THEY ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!

When I first found out that we had a new farmer's market I was so happy. I am orig. from Ga. and grew up in the country with fresh veggies and learning how to can with my grandmother. The produce and goodies they have here are GREAT!! I tell everyone I know and now send gifts to my friends and family from the vendors, try the scented candles: they smell like you could eat them with a spoon. I agree I wish the American Press would do more articles on our wonderful people who give us excellent produce and items.

I would like to say that our market is wonderful. The vendors are kind and have wonderful produce and other great homemade items. I tell everyone I know about the market. I wish our local paper (Lake Charles American Press) would do a full page article on these wonderful people who take the time to grow all the products and sell at an amazing price. My hat goes off to all the vendors and patrons for keeping us going.
