Charlestown Farmers' Market

By: Erik Fn (Sep 15, 2009)
The best thing about this Farmer's Market is that there is a couple that shows up with plants (including citrus trees, fig tress, ornamentals, etc.) they started at home and are very reasonably priced.

That said, this Farmer's Market needs more farmers to show up. First there has not been a lot of vegetables there the times that I have come (and I've shown up very early and checked back at later times in the day). Second there are people (some but not all) here selling things they did not grow but bought from farms in California: a) I saw the containers in the backs of a couple of thier vehicles b) the tomatoes have the look and taste of plain old agribusiness tomatoes.

There are people in Lake Charles who are interested in eating locally-grown food. If you are a local farmer, please come--you'll "clean up."
