What an amazing place.....

Last year was our first as working CSA members, and we are SO looking forward to returning this year, it cant come soon enough! There is such a beautiful sequence of events that unfold on our Thursday workday...our two sons and I load up in the van, full water bottles, eager laughter, windows down, singing along with the radio as we drive up the mountain..quiet country roads winding up the hill, then you break out into the opening, and you are immediately in the company of some of the most genuinely kind people we have ever met. Everyone smiling ..."Hello!" ....we just LOVE that! We also love the delicious veggies we get to take home every week..great variety, and the best part??!! Eating them, of course!! Every week, the boys and I are tearing into the bag on our way home, brushing off the dirt, and enjoying the fruits of our labor. In this rush-rush world, it is essential to slow down, get your hands dirty, grow something. As a family, it is important for us that our children know how to grow their own food, where their food comes from, and also the reward of seeing a task through from start to finish. Another highlight is getting to know new people, and as we are working we are sharing our lives, our hearts, our stories, and even our recipes. Not only is there a fantastic variety of vegetables, there is a fantastic, very diverse group of people , from all walks of life, all working together toward a common goal...

I have become a very satisfied member of our community farm. Gardening can be a great exercise in being more conscious about taking care of oneself. When working in a garden you can be so absorbed that it is a kind of meditation. It's a nice break from the work most of us do at work. We are what we eat and do. I often ask myself, "how much of our daily routine do we really think about on a conscious level?"

A big benefit of gardening close to home is the wide assortment of produce that does not have to be shipped thousands of miles from questionable sources. The food from our garden is wholesome, organic and a healthier way to become what we eat. It's especially nice to be part of the process of growing what we eat and to watch the progression of the growing season.

A few years ago I started thinking that I didn't want to become a statistic due to ignoring my health. Being 57 now, I have been increasingly aware of friends and relatives running into serious health problems. Too many people are getting high blood pressure, diabetes and other health issues due to poor eating habits and lack of exercise. I realized that being more conscious about what I ate was one way to enjoy better health. Joining the garden was a way to eat & live better. My blood sugar levels improved and I lost 30 pounds through healthier eating habits and exercising. I feel clearer and happier knowing that my odds with good health are greatly improved now.

The garden is a great place to meet new friends. It's fun to get dirty hands, make jokes and breath the fresh air. I recommend that if our CSA interests you to check it out, by making a phone call and visiting the farm once things get started in the spring.

I've been a PeaceWeaver for about five years and have been actively participating in their garden program for three of those years. I love everything about it - - - the people, the produce, the sun-wind-rain of the process. The integrity of the people translates beautifully into their commitment to preserving the beautiful land they inhabit. Of the ~250 acres, approximately 90 are under cultivation. Oats and buckwheat are sold to area millers. The garden bounty feeds the Peace Weaver community and 60 additional families. Each year I have been impressed with the new/heirloom varieties and the enthusiasm of the gardeners. I'm eager for the season to begin!

I have belonged to the PeaceWeaver Organic Farm for two years as a working member. I go once a week for a few hours and help in the garden with seasonal chores such as planting, weeding and harvesting. The "work" is fun and happy. The gardeners have a wonderful time together while tending the gardens.

The produce grown and harvested is healthy, diverse and abundant: from early peas and spinach to late harvest squashes and potatoes with everything in between.

The farm is well organized and the permanent staff works alongside the members giving us solid instruction about what needs to be done each week.

The PeaceWeavers are simply the best people on the planet. They take great care with all that they do on their land, in the community and globally to promote peace, happiness and health. I couldn't recommend this farm more. It's good for both the body, mind and soul! I'm lucky to live nearby.

I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the CSA at PeaceWeavers each of the last two growing seasons, and have only positive feedback to give about my time there. You may decide to go there to learn organic gardening techniques or simply to earn your weekly share of locally grown produce, but will find yourself enriched in so many other ways. I met a wide range of people with many different backgrounds and interests. I spent just a couple of hours each week weeding, watering, transplanting, harvesting, sorting, or doing other gardening tasks. I do not consider myself a "green thumb", but if you can follow simple instructions and don't mind getting your hands dirty (literally!), this is the place for you. It may not even seem like work at times, since you are usually chatting--sometimes even SINGING--along with friends. By day the CSA members may be office workers, independent business owners, chefs, retired folks, etc. But when we reach the PeaceWeavers farm, we all work together to help cultivate a wonderful assortment of delicious nutritional produce that you can feel good about feeding your family. Sound like fun? Join today!
