Shopped here often for years but over the past 4-5 it has gone down to nothing more than a flea market and the vegetables they do have are of poor quality and I do not trust that they grow them! The meat counter needs board of health inspected badly as I had bought a "fresh" cut chicken and other meat, it did not last a day in the fridge before spoiled - vendor said I should have cooked it the day I bought it and no refund! Poor service. The wood stove is nice but I feel it is very dangerous for kids to go near! The diner had little to speak if for food and lady was not very sanitary in my opinion. NOT THE HISTORIC market it used to be! Not going back, we have other wonderful farmers markets in Fort Wayne that I now love to shop at!

If I wanted to shop at a salvation army I would go to one. A few farmers, but can't tell who does buy from food auctions vs grows. I hope they do better this year, so sad, great building with a lot of history.

I really used to like the meat counter at Southside Farmers Market- they had the best chicken ever! The new meat counter operator's meat tastes bad. I have bought now twice this season (thinking the first time might have just been a fluke) but the meat (pork) is very old and freezer burnt tasting. It had a very strong flavor and produced a foul odor when cooked. It was expensive and I should have known better on the second time not to buy. The meat counter man and the meat case looked a bit unsanitary too. I will stick to just purchasing meats at Fresh Market I think.

All the vegetables are good here though at the market and I am really happy to see more variety and new vegetable vendors at Southside Market.

I happen to agree with this review, this market is very untrustworthy with its current vendors! Not like it used to be in the many years past! Poorly run!

Referencing the above comment...That is a very deprecating statement. I highly disprove of this review and it is obviously someone that does not like the vendors, not the product. I have had several items from these vendors and everything that my family and I have purchased has be absolutely outstanding. Each review should be investigated and not just thrown up on this board. I believe it is defaming of the vendor.

i know a few of the farmer's at the south side market and they are real farmers. this is a great place to get fresh goodies and on several occasions, i have received free goodies from the farmers i was buying from.

here's a review from fort wayne business weekly that tells a little about some of the farmers/farms that you can find at the south side market:

I dont like shopping here because I learned that most of the vendors dont grown their own veggies (schloop sp.?) and others. Also they set prices on what stuff is to sell for. Vendors will lie right to your face that they are growers when in fact they just buy the produce from wholesalers.

This is a wonderful market and the person who wrote the comment can't frequent it often. I remember my father bringing me here in the 50's & 60's and it has only improved. If there is anyway you can move this comment until later in the list or even clear the entire list, it would be more fair to this market which serves a real need in our community. After this market closes on Saturday, many vendors donate left over food to various churches around town and the community food bank to get the leftovers into needy hands. It doesn't deserve a bad rap. Thanks.

They have everything I need from a wide range of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, herbs, household plants and even a book stand!

I liked this farmers market very much. Tons of produce, food products and plants to choose from. Although I do not use WIC, people are able to purchase their food with WIC coupons and I am happy to see that. This market offers excellent food choices from local farmers and is less concerned with art booths, entertainment and gourmet products.
