Let me count the wonderfulness:#1.. LOCALLY GROWN;#2.. sweetest tomatoes ever; #3.. great garlic, beans, okra, corn, herbs, melons, greens, ad infinitum...;#4 ..the feeling of community together as we (customers & vendors) compare cooking tips, recipes, the superiority of one bean over another for long cooking times, the weather's influence on qualiity, dearth or bounty. I look forward to my Saturday morning visits and week's marvelous meals. Thank you Athens Farmers Market !!!!!

Athens Farmers Market makes for a fun and happy Saturday morning with my family. My girls love the kids area, with the facepainting and bubbles, and dancing to the live music. We nosh on banana bread, fresh fruit juice, and quiche, and we get our weekly take of local eggs and fresh bread, and whatever other goodies look delightful that day. Best part: bumping into our neighbors and friends every week!

It's local, it's nearby, it's a terrific combination of fun and freshness, *and* all produce is both sustainably farmed and "Certified Naturaly grown". In short, it's the greenest market I know. I can even take public transportation to get there... or walk over, if I'm feeling feisty.

The Farmer's Market was a huge success from its first gathering, in its first year. There was obviously so much pent-up demand for local, fresh food in our area. The market takes place within Athens' largest municipal park, in the middle of youth sports activities, Lation soccer leagues, and summer camps. Its a true community gathering spot; the local says is that Athenians don't go to their front porch to see their neighbors, they go to the Athens Farmer's Market.

It is only open on Saturday mornings in the summer and fall, but it is great fun with live music and children eating cookies and dancing. The produce is exquisite and now I believe a local organic beef grower is taking orders/and or selling his grass grown beef on the spot. There was an article in NYT Magazine about this farm and sadly I didn't go to the market today and I can't remember the name. It is located in Elberton, GA 'down the road a piece', and seems to be one of the finest cattle farms around.
At any rate I love the Athens Farmers Market and think it is so important to support local growers.
