I wanted to see what the updated scoop on this Farmers Market is, so I called them at the number given: according to a gentleman who identified himself as one of the Downtown Farmstand's longtime members, they will be only be open 'til late June of this summer, 2012, when the entire operation is then scheduled to shut down .... evidently for good. I inquired if this was political or financial, and he replied that no, it came to many layers of problems that are not for him to discuss.

These people did a great service to the Chicago community, for which I'm sure hundreds of thousands of city residents would wish to thank them.

Some day in the future I hope enough people still care about seeing what we can learn -- or pass on -- from mistakes or losses that help us all, and don't defeat us.

There's variety, and the people putting out their fruits and vegetables were nice, and helpful.

it's nearby, everything is pristine, good samples, friendly vendors, pets allowed, beautiful fresh-cut fowers, great cheeses and meats.

Every Thursday right across the street from me are fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, breads . . . what's not to love?
