We have been participating in the Frog Meadow Farm for at least 3 years and we have been so pleased with their produce. Not only are the fruit and veggies terrific, Derek is so kind and responsive. You can tell he pours his heart and soul into his farm and cares deeply about the quality of the produce he and his family grow. I highly recommend this CSA!

I co-run a SW Portland area buying club that has bought produce in bulk from Frog Meadow Farms on several buys already, and we couldn't be happier with the produce and the service. Our last buy had over 600 lbs of apples alone, plus hundreds of pounds of squash, potatoes and root veggies. The farmer not only delivered everything to our specified location, he brought his whole family and some colleagues to help us divide out every single order (some of which included nearly everything on offer). Very few farmers would take the time to stay for 2+ hours and help us sort through over thirty orders, and it means a lot to us to have this kind of working relationship. We do our part in exchange, and make sure we don't oversell anything, and keep delivery dates rigid so the produce doesn't get pulled early and then sits around waiting to be delivered (which can affect its freshness).

We started our buys after the strawberry buy that didn't work out, and I want to stress that this farm is really worth checking out, despite those negative reviews. Things can go wrong, and when that happens, this farm honors that, and will find a viable replacement. Because they use organic farming practices, some things can't be as easily controlled for, like critters devouring the gold beets. When that happened, we were offered a choice of red beets, another root veggie, or a refund. More than reasonable, and everyone has been thrilled with the whole transaction. We plan to buy from Frog Meadow Farms whenever they have bulk amounts of produce available!

This is my second year having a CSA with Frog Meadow Farm. I was sold the firs time I spoke to Derek last year when I signed up. His consideration for this single old lady was above and beyond. I have had nothing but the most amazing fresh produce from this farm. I will keep signing up with him as long as I can.

Went down and met farmer D last week to pick up a bag of cucumbers on credit after the previously reviewed ill fated strawberry buy. I just wanted to comment that this is a hard working farmer who really does care about his customers and the food he produces. He was kind, showed me around and I am looking forward to more bulk buys with his farm in the future...and the cucumbers were great! I have a ton of relish and pickles canned and ready for the winter!

I was also part of a bulk strawberry buy this spring from Frog Meadow Farm. We ordered 3 flats. We were quoted 14-15 lbs per flat but each flat was only 9 lbs. Some of the berries were already rotting by the time we got them.

Basically we received about 1/2 the amount of useable strawberries as we were expecting. I called the farm and left a message - they never called back. Called again a couple days later and they would not give any refund or replace any berries. They blamed the lady who organized the bulk buy. Some of the problems could have been hers, but not the rotting berries.

I heard from someone else that they called him and he got very upset and yelled at them. Not good business practice.

I will not buy from this farm again.

I received a call back from this farmer a few days later. He apologized, and asked me to let him know how he could make things right. I appreciate his integrity and would now consider buying from him again.

I was a small part (one flat) of a bulk strawberry purchase this spring and was disturbingly disappointed in the quality, quantity and size of the fruit purchased through Frog Meadow Farm.

We were told the flats would be 14-15 pounds yet they averaged only 9 pounds BEFORE removing the cardboard flat/hallucks. While this was alarming, the true disappointment came in eating the fruits which appeared to have been picked for the Montavilla Farmers Market on Sunday and left out to over-ripen and/or rot in the excessive heat until we were called (a day earlier than they were ordered to be picked up) and told to get them on Wednesday. The fruit was extremely over-ripe, in some cases the fruit at the bottom had mildewed, was not flavorful or even fermented in flavor.

As a small farmer myself I would NEVER have let a product in that condition leave my farm to be sold at full price. Suddenly, after purchasing we have been told the berries were "canner quality" but that is NOT what we were told prior to purchase and even so, these are NOT canner quality, these fruits are 3/4 COMPOST quality!!! I, along with MANY of us who ordered strawberries, am EXTREMELY disappointed and do NOT recommend this farm. They simply did not do the right thing for their customers and when called on it they either hung up or got angery with their customers. NOT good practices in any way and very disappointing. I have learned my lesson and will not purchase from Frog Mountain Farm in the future.

I had a very nice and unexpected call this morning from Derek Hassing of Frog Meadow Farm in which he apologized profusely for the condition of the strawberries I had received during the bulk buy earlier this week. He explained that due to the large buy, he had contracted out the labor to get the strawberries picked in time (something he NEVER does but did due to the size of the order he felt he needed to) and wasn't able to do a quality control check on all the flats that went out. I could hear how sick to his stomach he was that this had happened and he even offered replacement in veggies in the future but he did not want to offer strawberries again after this incident. Long story short my opinion of this farm/farmer has improved greatly knowing that the owner would take the time to place a personal call to apologize and realizing that this was a big and unfortunate learning experience for him.
