5 STARS! We go to Pepper Place every Saturday morning for our locally grown vegetables, eggs, cheese, and honey. A real egg with a super hard shell. Imagine that.

Catch the chef demonstration and samples at 9 am. You might want to bring some sturdy bags as the plastic bags get tiring after walking around.

A friend of mine from Florida asked me about my favorite place in Birmingham, and I quickly replied, "Why, the Pepper Place Saturday Market, of course!" I went on to explain that the atmosphere there is so lively and friendly and that buying my produce directly from those who grow it, allows me to feel that I am doing my part to support the local economy and that I am feeding my family well. You can make a morning of the experience, having a leisurely breakfast there, listening to the musicians, and taking in the sights. I eagerly await the opening day of the market each year and am sad to see the end of the season come.

Wonderful, locally produced fresh produce -- inspires you to eat well and support local farmers. Although getting up on a Sturday morning is somewhat difficult, the rewards waiting at Pepper Place make it a no-brainer. Why else would so many of my friends make sure that Pepper Place is part of their Saturday morning throughout the summer?

There is no place I would rather be on Saturday morning than Pepper Place. Where else can you buy the freshest produce from friendly and dedicated Alabama growers, run into everyone from your neighbor to Frank Stitt, listen to local musicians, see dogs in sunglasses, AND eat peach ice cream at 8:00 AM? Pepper Place draws the whole community together in support of the farmers, bakers, musicians, and craftsmen that help make this city the vibrant and magical place it is.

Wow. Where to begin... Pepper Place is more than just a farmer's market. It's a place where the community gathers on a beautiful sunny Saturday to enjoy people, fresh and local produce, listen to musicians on two stages and if you're there early enough: learn from a cooking demonstration done by a local chef using only the best local foods. Alabama farmers take great pride in their goods and as a resident of this community, I feel extremely fortunate to reap the benefits of their outstanding work ethic and delicious fare.

Pepper Place is where Birmingham comes together -- black, white, young, old, rich, and poor. The produce is always outstanding, and talking to the farmers who grow your food is even more fun.

Local is the best! It's better to give my money to the local community instead of other places.

Our Pepper Place Market is a feast for the five senses. As soon as you walk up, your nose leads you forward with the scent of fresh brewed coffee and baked goods wafting in the air. You hear the many voices of the shoppers and farmers greeting each other and laughter as they joke around and catch up with the week's events. Live music is usually being played from several locations and you can tell by the smiles that their efforts bring enjoyment to all who pass by. You see beautifully arranged fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs just calling out to you to take them home and serve them up fresh to your family. You touch the smooth skin of the eggplant and rub the leaves of a basil plant. All around are owner's who brought their dogs to the market. Children and grown-ups alike ask permission to stroke these sweet, friendly animals. Yes, Pepper Place is an event in itself and coming home with fresh grown groceries is a bonus!

Pepper Place offers a multitude of fresh produce in addition to baked goods, coffee beverages and smoothies, and live vegetable and herb plants. Artwork from Birmingham's creative citizens comprises a good bit of the market, and Birmingham's Nomad Supply (one of the city's treasures) has begun to attend every week. Pets are welcome, too.

Helping to support our local farmers, buy fresh from the farm vegetables, fruit and even flowers, and to be out in the sunshine with people of all ages is just the best. Not to mention our local chefs doing live demos and live bands. All in downtown Birmingham!! It's the best....

Pepper Place Farmers Market has always been one of my favorite things about Birmingham. You have a chance to buy fresh, locally grown food, support local farmers, see chefs' demonstrations, hear live music, eat a great breakfast and see all types of dogs and their humans. It is a happening as well as an incredible community asset. I am so happy to see that participation of farmers and attendance of local people is growing over time.

This place is the "Model" that other markets could only hope to live up too.

Fresh, local, and a true family atmosphere.

The Chef's demonstration and the live music makes it even better!

Besides the wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables, there are local vendors for art items too. I loved the glassblower artwork for usual items bowls, vases etc. There are also ideas galore for bathroom sinks. You can find an original painting or beautiful hand beaded jewelry. It is like going to a foreign bazaar. Get your girl friends and go down there this weekend!
