I love Bluestem Farm. They are a one stop shop for organic and sustainably raised veggies, eggs, chickens, and pork. I love their growing practices and how they treat the land to the goal of no outside inputs. The quality of the food is great. Their kale, broccoli, and Brussel sprouts are my favorites!!! The owners are super friendly, personable and easy to work with. They have preserving workshops, concerts, tours, yoga and more at their beautiful location as well. I have been a CSA member since the beginning and I plan to continue for many more years!

I started to participate in Bluestem Farms CSA program this fall. I love the variety of organic local produce that is available during the long cold winters of Northern Michigan. I think it is important to support our local organic farmers and to eat according to the seasons. I appreciate the convenience of picking up my produce in Gaylord. I have also visited the Boyne Farmers Market and picked up some wonderful sauerkraut and sausage from Bluestem Farms. Their quality is superior.

. Last winter, having learned of the Brower Family's recent foray into 4 season farming, we decided to give it a try, by joining their Winter CSA. What am amazing, and rewarding experience it has been, too! I did not consider myself exactly a novice at growing vegetables...soil fertility, moisture, lite requirements, No chemicals;but Mary and Aaron are miracle workers in my mind! Delicious veggies! Succulent Pork! So, it made sense to stick with them for the high summer season, as well, and we are now firmly committed to them, as they are to all of their CSA family. They exemplify, for us, at least, the spirit, the commitment, that has made untold numbers of others before them, ready, willing and able, to work the good earth, to husband the livestock, to raise their children, to feed their community, and themselves, healthy veggies, healthy meats, with an eye towards Stewardship of the land;giving back to it in a way that gives promise of continuing health, and productivity, for us all

Bluestem Farm has allowed me to find a rhythm with making my own food at home. I've been on both sides of CSA farming and CSA membership. With the options that Bluestem has available, my partner and I were able to craft our own pick-up items. We now have a veggie-half share, an egg share, and a pork share, and it is perfect for us. Not only that, but the farmers have a way of empowering us to make things we normally wouldn't try, encouraging us with their recipes, suggestions and classes. I have a recipe packet now, that is my go-to after having picked up their many recipe cards over the season. They answer my questions quickly on Facebook when I'm unsure of something. And there is no question that the quality is amazing. The bacon, pork chops, eggs, bok choy, beets, carrots, patty-pans, cucumbers, basil...so many good things! Thank you Bluestem!

Thankyou Mary and Aaron for all the care and effort that goes into what you produce at Bluestem! At the winter CSA potluck we felt welcome and part of a wonderful community. We loved the tour , all the explanations of your farming methods, why you chose the animals you are raising and how the winter CSA will work. The CSA cookbook is great, having already tried a few recipes, and we are looking forward to a season of fresh root veggies and eggs.Having had your eggs and summer produce from the farmers market, I think that we will be enjoying equally delicious offerings this winter. The recipes posted on Pinterest and your articles in Edible Grand Traverse are informative and helpful...keep them coming! Gail Willens

After much consideration for what we have decided to eat and not to eat this year my husband and I choose to join a CSA. We choose Bluestem Farm because we wanted local food, the chance to visit the farm and it appealed to us to have the option of fresh chicken and pork as well as vedgies. We have enjoyed all the food. The variety has been nice and it has made me look up different recipes and try different things. Mary is a true gem and I enjoy seeing her at the markets when we pick up our share. We have enjoyed the different activities at the farm and wish we could fit them all into our schedules. CSA programs are wonderful and Bluestem has it broken down nicely as to what you can expect for your money. I highly recommend them!

Just an update...the hot Italian sausage is out of this world. My husband and I mix it into our tomato sauce it's wonderful and makes a tasty addition.

They provide generous CSA shares, a huge variety of vegetables and meats, and they're very easy to work with. I especially love their Winter CSA's. Bluestem Farm is great and I'm happy to be a part of their programs.

I have to say I LOVE your farm. As an ecologist I understand and love what you are doing to be sustainable with minimal outside inputs. I may never be a gardener and so I am excited to have a farm like yours around. I also really appreciate the meat shares. I get really excited when our dinners come 100% from your farm :) I am excited for the food you have for us in the future.

Bluestem Farm's "Deep Winter" CSA share was fabulous. Bi-weekly shares of eggs and root veggies as well as 32 pounds of chicken helped sustain our family of 4 though the season. We also bought pork from the farm. The food is all very high quality and Mary provided helpful recipes for the root veggies. We are CSA members at another farm from spring - fall, but we plan to join the Bluestem CSA each winter. My kids like seeing the photos from the farm that are posted on Bluestem's Facebook page.

We love working with Bluestem Farm. We did their deep winter CSA and it was great to get local veggies and meat throughout the winter. Their pork was out of this world. We had to discipline ourselves just so that it would last. They are great people who love the farming and bringing good natural food to the tables of their neighbors. If you can get one carrot or the largest CSA share, Bluestem Farm is a great place to get your food!
