Because its the only local farmer's market in MN and you get a relationship with the farmers. The food is always good, fresh and in season and the atmosphere is a lovely, festive one where people actually take time to get to know each other and their food producers. Its AMAZING!

Because all food sold at the market must be local (grown within a limited radius from st. paul) and the city provides public assitance food vouchers for low income families to use at the farmers market.

Its produce is all grown within 50 miles of downtown St. Paul; there is a great variety of produce and other food and flower and plant items including buffalo bones for my dog; wild rice and cranberries when in season; it is large enough to have a lot but not so large it tires me out; it is convenient to my home.

The market has a comfortable and welcoming vibe, with activities for kids and a variety of live music adding to the festive atmosphere! We love knowing that the food is local -- not all farmers markets are. The variety is great, growers present mixed lettuces like gorgeous flower bouquets, excellent choice of meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, and breads in addition to the plant food. And the size is just right -- not too big, but big enough to ensure a selection among growers.

STFM has rules allowing only the growers to sell; plus all produce has to be grown within a 50 mile radius. No bananas, no brokers, no apples in June. Just the best in season, grown by your neighbors (or those you just don't know yet personally). It's where urban/suburban foodies go to connect with their rural counterparts.

My husband and I started going to the farmers market last summer when I was pregnant. We ate a LOT of salads. This year, we've been taking our infant son every week. He loves looking at the people and the flowers, and his favorite food is asparagus from the farmers market, roasted and pureed. I can't wait till he's big enough to beg for a donut or a bagel or those little honey sticks. We like to go early on Sunday morning, before it's too crowded. It's truly the best part of my week.

The St. Paul Farmers Market allows only products from within 50 miles that are grown by the farmers. There is no imported product, or product bought at a grocery store being resold. They have a wide variety including meats, cheese, honey, eggs, maple syrup, fresh flowers, bedding plants, all kinds of produce and the market is year round. We have many Hmong farmers that bring vegetables not found in grocery stores. Many of the farmers' products are certified organic. The market always has music.
