We are starting a new chapter of Slow Food, USA in Myrtle Beach area, SC. Slow Food is an organization promoting healthier, organic and locally grown foods. For more on Slow Foods visit www.slowfoodusa.org
We hosted our FIRST Slow Food USA Horry County Chapter meeting on Feb. 17th, 2011 at 6:30PM. Horry Co. Main Library branch, 801 Main St Conway, SC. After a few meetings there was no one to take the role of president, so it lapsed into inactivity.
Our featured speaker was local organic farmer David White "The Chickenman" from Oaklyn Plantation Free Range Chickens speaking to the gathering on the benefits of consuming free-range poultry both for health and the local economy.
Membership in Slow Food USA is not necessary at our first couple of meetings. While we had 15 RSVPs we had 27 people show up for the 1st meeting... a resounding success. Our next meeting is to be held in Myrtle Beach at Luigi's Italian Restaurant on April 13th @ 6:30. RSVP to Sharon at (843) 670-7964 prior to 4/12/11 or to the restaurant after that. We are looking to get things cranked up for 2012.
