Mission The Growing Home is an urban farm, educational center, and model home located in the suburbs of Los Angeles. We seek to inspire others to re-think, re-imagine, and re-generate the suburban landscape to build a green & sustainable future. In working towards this goal, we hold classes on a variety of green topics, give tours of our home, and offer our consulting services. If you like the work we are doing, please keep in touch with us through our Newsletter and Facebook. Background Beginning in 2008, our house began to be slowly converted from a grass growing space to a food growing farm. We started in a small space (about 400 sq ft in our backyard), just enough to feed our family the produce we needed for the summer. From there, it wasn't long before we had removed all the grass from our front and backyard, and started growing food everywhere. We now produce food year round on our 5000 sq ft of land, from herbs to vegetables to fruits. More recently, we have been working to redesign our landscape according to natural principles (photos below), with the addition of terraced gardens, ponds, wetlands, and more.
