Local Roots Market is a new year-round farmers' market in downtown Wooster. Organized as a producer- and consumer-owned cooperative, we are connecting local foods with community involvement and support of local agriculture and local business. Over 60 producers (many certified organic) have signed up, offering a full range of food products from fresh and dried fruits and vegetables, grass-fed beef, pastured pork and lamb, free-range poultry, goat cheeses, artisan cheeses, honey, maple syrup, organic grains, jams and jellies, herbs (fresh and dried), specialty baked goods, locally-roasted fair trade coffee, soaps, wool and other fibers, and so much more.
The Local Roots mission also includes: education (sharing information about nutrition, cooking, food preservation, gardening, and sustainable living), community development (encouraging community gardens, home food production, sharing and swapping seeds and seedlings, hosting meetings), support for local business (collaborative events with other neighborhood organizations and businesses), and sustainability (sharing information about alternative energy and low-impact lifestyles, retrofitting the market building for energy efficiency and production, encouraging recycling and composting).
