Elephant Heart plum

The Elephant Heart Plum, grown primarily in the California region, has a unique smooth, dusty-white skin. The flesh is a consistent, dark ruby red, which is why it often bears the name "blood plum." When perfectly ripe, the meat is so juicy that resembles more a beverage than a fruit. Its soft, tropical flesh bears a rich and distinctive flavor. The skin has a tart, berry flavor. We run this small operation ourselves and raise Boer goats for meat and show, chickens, vegetables and fruits as naturally as possible. We love the variety of heirloom seeds that are available from all over the world. This year we have over 15 varieties of melons, more than 18 varieties of heirloom tomatoes along with 5 varieties of potatoes and 6 kinds of onions. We love variety! Our farm is in the rolling hills of Madison County, Iowa. As the name Burr Oak Farm suggests, we have many burr oak trees as well as others. Since trees grow well we are planting more - an orchard of apple, peach, plum, cherry, apricot, pear, and nectarine trees. We have about a thousand fruit trees in various stages of growth and production. We seem to have an inclination to expose the public to many heritage apple varieties as well as some tasty new ones.
