The Tepary plant is adapted to the dry conditions of the American southwest; it is drought-resistant and able to mature on a single irrigation or thunderstorm downpour. Both the brown and the white versions of the Tepary have a rich and nutty flavor. The beans vary in color and shape; they are oval, flattish or round and vary between a fleshly white, speckled brown, reddish-brown, or purplish-brown color. For their very small size they offer an exceptional nutritional value. While these miniature beans have a quick crop yield, they are also very difficult to harvest due to their small size and thin skins, which split open upon touch, scattering the beans.
Alma Farm produces mixed vegetables and raises meat in beautiful rural Porter Maine. The vegetables can be purchased through our CSA, our farmstand or wholesale accounts. Cerro Vista Farm grows high-energy vegetables, vegetable seeds, small grains, and beans in a scenic valley setting near the Rio Grande Gorge. We sell our produce through our Cerro Vista CSA Farm program, at the Taos Farmer's Market, and to local grocery stores and restaurants. Our specialties include Jumbo Sweet Onions - available September through January, and short-season, high-altitude, open pollinated vegetable seeds. Farm Tours are conducted each summer in August.
