While on vacation in Virginia Beach this week, I asked around to find if there were any restaurants that featured organic ingredients. The Heritage market and cafe on Laskin recommended Croc's, so that is where I told my family I wanted to go for my vacation/birthday lunch. I had the Mediterranean capellini with chicken, my sons had cheeseburgers (my bite of which was divine), my nephew got the pita pizza, my mom the half-sized serving (which looked like a full serving to me) of the Greek salad and the half serving of the crab cake, and my brother ordered what the waitress told him was the local favorite sea scallops. Everything was supremely fresh and everybody (including the teenagers) commented on how flavorful everything was. I regret I wasn't staying in town longer or I would have surely gone back to have an angus burger of my own (with melted bleu cheese). It took a little longer than typical to get our food, but I suspect that was because there was a dance convention across the street so some unexpected big parties of young dancers. The only thing we would've done differently was to drive rather than hike the 11 blocks to get there, not knowing if parking would be a problem (they have a free lot with ample spaces). Either way, the food was well worth it. I was torn whether to get the capellini with capers or their mezze sampler--my four choices would've been kefka beef skewers, Lebanese tabouleh, five-pepper tuna bites, and gator bites (fried alligator tail). I'm hungry again just thinking about it. Croc's is a treasure and I only wish I could find something comparable close to home.
