Our central focus is gourmet pork from pastured Berkshire pigs. We also offer eggs from pastured, heritage-breed hens, chevon from grass-finished Boer and Nubian goats, and lamb from grass-finished Icelandic sheep. Our animals are raised in the open air, on pasture, and fed no meat by-products, soy, or GMOs.
We are now offering vegetables and berries, in season. Our vegetables and berries are primarily heirloom varieties, which are raised using organic methods. We have recently established a tree fruit orchard, so stay tuned. As the trees mature, we will be offering organically grown apples, pears, plums, and cherries. At farmer's markets, we will often have baked goods, made with organic or natural ingredients, and whole grains.
Our great tasting pork starts with happy pigs. Our purebred, registered Berkshire pigs are raised outdoors. They are fed a variety of locally-farmed natural grains, fresh milk, and alfalfa hay. Their feed is soy-free and GMO-free. Because of the healthful way they are raised, our pigs don't require routine antibiotics, nor are added hormones given. In meat quality tests, Berkshire pork consistently tops all other breeds in marbling, juiciness, and tenderness. We sell by the half and whole hog, as well as by individual cuts. We are pleased to offer sausage that is free from MSG, BHA, and BHT.
Our delicious and nutritious fresh eggs come from heritage, dual-purpose breeds of chickens. Our laying hens are truly free-range and pasture-raised, being confined only at night in order to protect them from predators. In addition to grass and insects during the warm months, they are fed locally-grown wheat and oats, and field peas. During the winter, they are supplemented with grass/alfalfa hay.
We raise Boer goats, as well as Nubian dairy goats. Boer goats are an African breed, well adaptable to various environments. Goat meat, or chevon, is in high demand as a high-quality, lean, red meat, and is the most widely consumed meat in the world. Our grass-finished goats are kept on pasture and woods where they can graze and browse. They are fed grass/alfalfa hay in winter. Nubians are considered dual-purpose for both milk and meat. Nubians have a very high butterfat content in their milk, making it rich and delicious, as well as perfect for yogurt, cheese, and soap-making. A small ration of certified organic grain is provided to the dairy does to supplement their diet.
We are proud to raise registered Icelandic sheep. Icelandics are a triple-purpose breed, providing meat, milk, and fiber. They are one of the world's oldest and purest breeds of sheep. Developed in Iceland over 1000 years, they are hardy and uniquely suited to grass-finishing. Their gourmet meat is tender, mild, and leaner than that produced by most other sheep breeds.
At the Farmer's Market at Landon's Greenhouse in Sheridan, we will often have baked goods made from quality ingredients such as organic Wheat Montana whole-wheat flour, organic sugar, Ghirardelli chocolate chips, and our eggs. Although the selection varies, it usually includes pumpkin and banana breads, scones, and cookies.
We also have a small herd of registered Suri alpacas. We often have raw fiber available from their luxurious fleeces and occasionally alpacas for sale.
