Vintage Virginia Apples grows over 200 varieties of apples specializing in heritage and non commercial varieties rarely available in the general market. The focus here is on flavor and taste appeal. We sell apples directly to the public at the farm and a few local markets. We offer approximately 75 varieties of apples, a dozen or so rare peach cultivars, and a few plums, pears and quince as trees from our nursery of grafted trees. We also offer workshops and seminars on cultivation. While apples are our primary focus, we also have about 30 varieties of peaches and a collection of pears and plums. This is a family owned and operated business located in what was once an area of many orchards, most of which have disappeared. The fabeled Albemarle Pippin was grown here and shipped abroad into the 20th century. We are focused on growing richly flavored apples, such as the Pippin, Ashmead's Kernel, Winesap, Grimes Golden, Stayman, Roxbury Russet, Black Twig, GoldRush and a host of others. We launched Albemarle CiderWorks in 2009 to produce an artisanal craft cider from the apples we grow. That endeavor is growing rapidly and our ciders are available from our Tasting Room at the farm and in a number of outlets in the Charlottesville area, northern Virginia and Richmond.
