Sparta Mountain Farm

Miracles happen on a farm and Sparta Mountain Farm is proof of that statement. Located in Jefferson Township in Northwestern NJ, we are a small family owned and operated farm incorporating a love for animals, nature, and education into our vision. In 1998 we began operating as a tree farm selling wood as our main product. In 2002 after having half of our family members and one of our dogs contact Lyme disease we decided to raise guinea hens and ducks. Finally, in 2004, we became serious about our farm venture and purchased two pygmy goats and have increased our animal population to include a lamb, a herd of pygmy goats, llamas, alpacas, Vietnamese potbellied pigs and piglets, guinea pigs, rabbits, an assortment of ducks and ducklings, guinea hens, and over two hundred laying hens and pullets. Being a small farm, we are able to give our animals individualized attention and care. We spend a great deal of time with them in order to socialize them, halter train them, and make them feel comfortable around people. All animals are hand fed. Our goal is to maintain and provide an educational resource which would allow visitors the experience of seeing animals such as llamas, alpacas, pygmy goats and poultry in a natural environment which provides for the protection and safety of both animal and land. Sparta Mountain Farm continues to incorporate more farm tours and parties into its business plan each year. Our birthday parties are a huge success with the birthday child and guests enjoying a fun filled experience on a working farm. We offer guided llama hikes beginning each spring through fall. Scouts are invited to work on badges at the farm. Farm products such as eggs, fiber, alpaca products, and firewood are always available for sale with other products to be included as we continue to grow. We are a NJ Tree Farm Family and participate in the Forest Stewardship and NJ Conservation Programs. We are members of Farm Bureau, Local Harvest, and Foodshed Alliance, and support all forestry and agricultural programs. Helen recently completed the Annie's Project Course.
