Personius Family Farm is currently run on our city plot and a community garden space in Anoka, Minnesota. We have our own backyard chickens a small green house and grow lights involved in our operation. We do not use chemical fertilizers, only compost and chicken manure. Our chickens have a nice large area are fed layer feed, cracked corn, and whatever non-meat scraps from the families table as well as any grubs found in the garden. I am full time student at the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Sciences, where I am working toward a BAS in Horticulture with an emphasis on organic farming. My wife is a Personal Care Assistant working with the disabled. Together we have a love of nature, and growing great tasting local produce. Our two daughters aged seven and four enjoy helping us plant, weed in the garden and help with our chickens. The chickens are: a Cochin named Baked, a Bantam named Poker, Production Red, Fried and an Americana Fluffy We are working on obtaining 1-4 more acres to use, but the land has been fallow for a few years so, it will take some careful planning to get a good yield from the new site if we work it.
