Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery is Illinois' first farmstead goat dairy located in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. Established in 2005, they milk 60-70 Nubian and La Mancha does seasonally from March through December. Their herd is "Certified Animal Welfare Approved," the gold standard in pasture-based livestock production. They make several kinds of cheeses from their rich goat milk, including fresh chevre, bloomy rind brie and camembert styles and raw milk tommes and goat milk blue cheese.
In addition to their cheeses, they make goat milk gelato using fruits and herbs from their own farm to create unusual seasonal flavors including lemon verbena-thyme, anise hyssop, chocolate mint and fresh peach.
They have a small organic fruit orchard, a vegetable garden and they host seasonal "Dinners on the Farm" featuring all-local, slow-food meals. They also offer spring farm breakfasts and summer open houses as well as educational tours.
