Red Roof Farmstead is a small, family-owned farm in the Panhandle of North Idaho. We raise registered, purebred Lamancha dairy goats, beef cattle, hogs, geese, ducks and chickens. The goats are the foundation of our farm. They produce wonderful, sweet milk that is the base of our dairy products. We have a small herd permit through the State of Idaho (#RGM 076) and sell the milk and dairy products off of our farm. Our milk is tested and inspected monthly by the State.
We strive to provide our customers with the highest quality raw dairy products possible. The goats diets consist of free choice grass hay and alfalfa. At milking time the girls enjoy an all-natural wheat/barley/pea mixture that has been crushed and then topped with sunflower seeds, goat minerals, selenium and vitamin E. The feed is non-GMO and sourced locally in North Idaho. We strive to be an alternatively raised herd only using antibiotics when absolutely necessary to save a life. We test annually for CAE, CL, Johnes, Brucellosis and Tuberculosis. In 2013, our herd tested negative for all.
For milking, all of the equipment is sterilized. The udders are washed down very thoroughly, dried and the first milk is stripped. The goats are hand milked as we believe it promotes a healthier relationship with the goats and allows us to monitor the health and wellness of each animal more closely. The teats are then dipped in a teat dip to help combat bacteria entering the orifice of the teat. The milk is transferred inside in a stainless steel milk tote where it is strained twice into glass jars (that have also been sterilized) and chilled immediately. In 2014 we began DHI Milk Testing and look forward to our girls getting the recognition that they deserve for all of their hard work!
