Amelia is new to this area of Georgia, but is continuing a lifetime tradition of having her hands in the dirt. Wee Farm is flat six acres between Sylvania and Statesboro and has been chemical free for seven years.
We're utilizing the dynamics of natural cycles to eliminate the need for pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. A farmer's job on a truly sustainable farm is as shepherd to those natural cycles in a way that balances inputs and outputs to various parts of the system.
For example: refuse from the orchard becomes mulch and later, nutrients to the berries; grass trimmings become garden mulch; chickens control pests and fertilize the soil. I use cover crops and companion planting to control unwanted bugs, and am implementing a rotational pasture plan for the animals. I want a farm that isn't dependent on fossil fuels and heavy machinery to get the job done, so we're a "wee" operation with a little bit of everything.
Email us if you want to visit the farm or are interested in WWOOF-ing.
