What you have noted as 'The City Market' is the name I knew growing up, but for at least 15 years (probably longer) the city has been promoting a 'new' name for this area: 'The River Market.' The City Market is the 1st of its kind and is centrally located in the urban core. In the spring the choices of plants are great. When I need annuals, perennials, vegetable and herb plants this is my destination! Later in the season there are a wide variety of locally harvested fruits and vegetables. In addition the baked goods available are truly made from scratch and for a family interested in grain fed meats the choices here are not to be missed...Is there another market in the area which sells chickens, geese, etc.? In addition there's Planters Seed Co. and The City Market Coffee House. Succotash is a well known vegetarian restaurant and for anyone interested in history the Steamship Arabia museum and tour is a great stop.
