The Manassas Farmers market takes place early on Saturday mornings in a parking lot next to Manassas's historic train station. There is also a Thursday market at the Harris Pavilion (just across the tracks).
Thursday Market 7:00am - 1:00pm. Closing date this year is November 6, 2008. Saturday Market 7:30 am - 2:30pm. Closing date this year is November 22, 2008.
The Manassas market requires that all items not grown by farmers be clearly labeled.
I really enjoy going to the farmers market. The parking lot is full of tents full of produce, plants, fresh bread, & kettle corn. This last Saturday, there was even live music for the enjoyment of all those at the market. That beats chain grocery store music any day. Some people ride their bikes to the market. I like to walk around old town a little bit, get a little excersice before I start my shopping. It is nice to enjoy old town before or after I do my shopping, with it's coffee shop, attique stores, and out of service train that the kids can climb on. There are several banks you can walk to after you park, so you have the cash for the market.
Pick up your reuseable shopping bags and shop local with me at the Manassas Farmers Market!
P.S. Almost forgot. No dogs are allowed because of the Virginia department of health. See you at the market! I'll be the one with the toddler on one side and a fresh loaf of bread in the other.

Thank you, Jessica. I find that the more time goes on and we see more and more "unnatural" foods plaguing our stores and advertisements, the more that some of us are becoming more (am I using that word too much?) focused on - almost obsessing on - finding natural foods that are supporting our local farms and reducing our consumption of pesticides, herbicides, etc. I will make a point of checking out the Manassas Market.
