This year the Dallas Farmers Market kept going throughout the entire winter--what a testament to their dedication to keep bringing locally-made and -grown products to the people of Paulding County. I enjoyed cabbage, collards, kale and other winter greens throughout the cold months. Lettuces and spring greens are in now (April) and the quality is remarkable--hours, usually, from field to my bag. Further, the market boasts local craftspeople offering homemade soaps, candies, bird feeders; locally-raised pork products, and now beef, from hormone-free, humanely-raised animals are for sale (and don't forget the "yard eggs"!), and plantsmen offer vegetable and ornamental transplants for sale; local chefs offer gourmet nibbles, pestos, jams, jellies, and a local baker has sourdough items, breads, raviolis and a must-be-tasted thincrust pizza for sale. The Master Gardener Association has a booth with free expertise and encouragement. The vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, and I just love dropping in on Saturday mornings!
