Know Your Farms - Farm Tour

We are very disappointed in our CSA box selection. End of Aug and we get one or two little tomatoes, no melons and no zucchini. Seriously? No lettuce, no peaches. If I wanted garlic and teeny tiny yellow squash, I'd go to Harris Teeter. For what we are spending, we expected more in season fruits and veggies.

I very much enjoy the Know Your Farms CSA! Part of the fun of being in a CSA is that you participate in the farmers' experience; if they have a good month, you have a good month. If there's a drought, you might get teeny tomatoes. If you want to get peaches whenever you want peaches, then go buy them at Harris Teeter, as you said. We've been members of the KYF CSA for over a year now, and recommend it to others. Not only are you helping local farmers (which is really the point, isnt it?), but you are also getting a little excitement about "what are we going to get this week?". Sometimes it's "teeny tomatoes", sometimes it's a bumper crop of Kale or unusual foods like icicle radishes. I feel that if you want to exactly what you expect, seasonal or not, then maybe CSA is not for you. On the other hand, if you want the pleasure and excitement of discovering new and sometimes unusual produce delivered every week (or sometimes not!), plus the good feeling of helping local farms, then CSA is perfect!!
