My husband and I have been members of One Acre Farm since 2010 and have loved every minute! Farmer Mike's passion for farming is contagious, and we look forward to walking over to the pickup spot every Thursday. I've heard that other CSAs box up the produce for their members -- not so with One Acre Farm. Members walk up to the pickup, enjoy conversation with other members who are picking up, and weigh and select all of their own produce based on the guidelines each week. Spot a particularly lovely looking eggplant? It's yours! Know that you won't be able to use all of the potatoes you're allowed that week? Take only what you need!
We've loved the variety of veggies, especially learning more about leafy greens. And Farmer Mike knows his stuff -- it's fun to visit the actual farm and hear him talk about the machinery and how he cycles the crops through the fields. Finally, any extra produce each week is donated to a food bank in town.
It's a win-win-win-win for everyone involved -- we can't wait for the 2012 season to start!

Update from the summer season: I just looked at the calendar and realized we're already half-way through September, which means we only have about 6 more weeks of "Veggies!" as my husband and I like to call it. It means saying farewell to tasty local produce and saying hello to tasteless grocery store veggies from who knows where. This summer has been great like the others -- I think our new veggie favorite is turnips like someone mentioned above -- terrific when roasted alongside some beets and carrots -- yum! And Farmer Mike continues to amaze. My 75-year old father grew up on a farm in Iowa, and Farmer Mike tolerates (maybe even enjoys?) his ramblings about farm life when we visit One Acre in person. Volunteering together to clean hundreds of pounds of garlic is a memory with my dad I will not soon forget. Thank you, Farmer Mike, for helping to make that happen. Enjoying the end of 2012 and looking forward to 2013! Sarah and Andy
