My wife and I relocated here last year from Marquette, MI. They have an amazing Farmer's Market every Saturday. Not only did we purchase most of our food at the Marquette market through the summer months, but we just had so much fun taking walks there, and strolling through due to the multitude of products and atmosphere. So we were excited to hear of one in our new hometown of Iron Mountain.
Our first visit to the Iron Mountain Farmer's Market was last summer. When we arrived, we were sorely disappointed. There were very few vendors, and the ones that were there were either selling crafts, or over-priced foods with poor selection. I know that there is a place for crafts at a Farmer's Marker, but it shouldn't be the main component. It was a very frustrating experience for us, mostly because we went in there with high hopes of fresh veggies and breads, only to find people peddling their wares.
The only reason I did not rate this Market 1 Star (besides that, even though I didn't care for it in the least, I'd feel bad doing so), is because I don't want to discourage people in the area from going and visiting. I want this to be a good thing, and maybe if there's enough interest, more of the local farmers will attend.
So if you're in the area swing by, it certainly won't take much of your time.
I sincerely wish for this to work, so if you're one of the organizers reading this, maybe take the short trip up to Marquette on a Saturday and see how it's supposed to work.
