It is a VERY OLD market, dating back to the 1730's. The oldest market building in the country. Smells wonderful when you walk inside. You can find almost any kind of food you'd like for your recipes or for you to eat on the spot. Yummmm!!!

Lancaster is where I truly discovered the farmers market. I was use to living among big cities and never really saw a farmers market until moving to Lancaster for college. That's where I fell in love with farmers markets and haven't truly found a better one since.

Fresh local produce mostly grown by the large Mennonite/Amish community. It's fresh--it's local and it is a great experience!

We used to go to this market while working for a Summer camp many years ago. We compare all other Farmer's Market's to this one and they just aren't up to par. This one was the best. Too bad the St. Louis Metro area doesn't have one like it. Even Soulard isn't as good.
There was always a great variety and at a reasonable price. We were college students so price was important.

I supported Central Market growing up in Lancaster County and after living a number of places across the country, nothing compares to Lancaster County Farmers Markets. They are simply the best I've found and strive to find them elsewhere with little success.

It's a beautiful piece of architcture. On market days, with all the hustle and
bustle of shoppers, I love to imagine what it was like in days of yore. It's
huge social scene and the offerings from the variety of venders are top notch. It is said to be the oldest running farmers market in the U.S. If ever in Lancaster, treat yourself and have a visit.

fresh cheap produce, the hustle bustle, the patience of standholders. Also, the familiarity. Many of the stand holders started there as teenagers, and are now running the stands themselves, along with THEIR children.

This market is the gem of Lancaster city - one of the reasons people go into the downtown area. The first thing my daughter wants to do is go to "Market" when she visits from DC. The architecture of the building is outstanding, the local produce the best and the atmosphere of the place makes it a real destination.

I support it becuase its a great way to continue to have farmers cultivate these heatlhy products. Now days everything is so processed that is nice to be able to go to a place were they still believe in natrual sources.

When I was a boy, growing up in Lancaster, it was a treat to go to Market. My Dad would buy at least a shopping bag full of meats, cheeses, produce, eggs, etc. at Central Market. Late every Friday afternoon, he would walk in with the food he had purchased. We would have a feast then. I can remember times we would eat at a restaurant upstairs at the Market. There was another time my Father and I took over someone's market stand so that they could go on vacation that day. It was a lot of fun. There was a boy my age who had trouble learning to read and I helped him. Central Market had everything you wanted. There was Thomas's Meats, Steeley's Candy, Hodecker's Celery, Utz Potato Chips where you could watch them scoop up the chips and put them in the bags, Grace's Salads, Spring Glen, C. Z. Martin's, the scent of fresh flowers, freshly-baked goods, Shrimp, Fish, Horse Radish, the best of Lancaster County in one place. It is a real horn o' plenty! Lancaster has been fed for generations.

They always have pride in their quality fresh home grown and homemade products. They have fresh from the farm items at the stands. Buying local is the way to go. People come from far and wide for the home frown goodness. Dood prices too.

I live in Lancaster County and have shopped at Central Market since I was a child. It features locally grown fruits and vegetables, bakeries and meat stands. Plus a Middle Eastern stand and a Thai stand. The people are friendly and my husband and I consider them our friends.

If you think that everything is picked fresh the morning you arrive at Market, you are diluted. Earl groff is the only real deal grower there. Before you make assumptions about your produce procurement, research where all the produce is coming from. I think central market should be growers only. Then you would see how many standholders remain
