We've been to the Villa Romano Green Farms (or VR Green Farms) quite a few times. Their selection is very good and the quality of the items is very good. They also sell their own honey (the mango sage is my favorite), olive oil and we heard they were going to start selling cheese, as well. If you want to go hang out at a farm-style table under a wooden sun cover and taste veggies, cheese, breads, etc., then this is the place for you! It's really fun and sometimes they roast veggies and meat right there in a pit near the table. There are activities for kids, as well (gardening classes, etc.). I'm really glad that Villa Romano Green Farms is here in our local area and we will definitely visit again. My one complaint is that they sell out of their baskets early in the day, so get there early if you want to buy one! Thanks for the great times, Nic and company!

Where did all the pesticides and chemicals go that were used on the golf course? Your food that you bought from here! Most farmers who have developed sustainable soil systems allow 3-4 years for building a garden and 5-15 years to restore a devastated soil landscape. This applies to the physical restoration of soils and to the development of appropriate plant systems. Even after 18-20 years of no chemical use, a set of apple orchards in west Australia produces unsafe levels of Aldrin and Dieldrin in the eggs of free range chicken that ate the apples. What are these people thinking?

The area on the golf course that we grow on was never part of the Bella Collina course and was never treated with pesticides, etc. We paid extra attention to this when we planned our farm.

When I read about VR Green Farms on their website, I was really looking forward to visiting and I was planning on joining their CSA program. My husband and I made the drive to San Clemente on Saturday morning and we were extremely disappointed with what we saw. There were a few small baskets with about 3 or 4 different wilted looking vegetables. We arrived very shortly after they "opened", so I really don't think that it had already been picked over. There was no one else there (now I know why) and their tiny garden looked bare, dry and dead.

Ciao Jill. We changed our hours to an earlier opening and there's a good chance we were down to a few items when you stopped by. We apologize for not updating our hours here on LocalHarvest and for your making the trip out to our small farm without success. Can we make it up to you? A jar of our Mango Honey? A bottle of our Mission Olive Oil? We expanded our growing area last May with over 185 tomato plants and 110 zucchini plants alone. Right now we have an abundance of Italian fava bean plants ripening. Hope you'll give us another look.
