I love visiting D'Acres and helping out when I can, attending a breakfast, farm tour, or helping chop veggies in the kitchen. I'm a 60's Boomer and was in on the ground-breaking era of the natural foods/holistic health movement, when it was "underground" and not yet popular. D'Acres reminds me of that time of idealism and enthusiasm we had. I am learning from this community, their sense of commitment to the principles of sustainability, organic farming, recycling, and alternative energy. Integrating and contributing to the surrounding town communities in ways that we didn't do in the 60's. More power to them.

I lived and worked at DAcres for a litle more than a growing season and believe that it is a great example of sustainability in practice. From the way the resources are utilized to the method of program design, every aspect of this farm and education center embraces the "cradle to grave" theory and practices. The resources are utilized to their fullest extent then either reused or recycled into a different purpose, the land is well cared for and tended to, the food is prepared with care and purpose, and the educational programs are geared towards developing skills vital for a future with less fossil fuels. The center is also a great place for community to gather, eat good food, play music, celebrate, learn, and love together.

D'acres is my first experience with learning sustainable living, farming, canning, composting and gardening as well as everything that goes along with it. If it was not for D'acres and the staff there, I would not be growing my own herbs and drying them to make it through the winter without having to buy any in a store, I wouldn't be growing as much of my food that I can and enough to preserve it through the colder months. The thing I love about D'acres is the sense of community, the eagerness to help others and teach them how they can do everything that is done at the farm. I contribute much of my gardening success to my having visited D'acres, attending workshops and events and talking to the staff there. There is always someone there that can answer any question!

I have been involved in the program at D'Acres since day one and have seen the development of the physical layout and educational influence to the community. Potlucks are something that everyone enjoys with the diversity of foods offered , the music and the *chat exchanges* with friends and neighbors. I have taken it as a personal challenge to find a recipe and make a different dessert for every occasion. Being retired and keeping an active mind, I have found great pleasure in working with the folks that come to the farm to learn and to contribute knowledge. Even the pigs are vegetarian. LOL

In pockets all over the county, state, country and the world, are folks looking to the present and future by practicing and teaching methods of sustainable lifestyles. Right here in Dorchester, NH is D Acres, an organic farm and teaching center practicing what they teach and linked with others doing the same. Locally it is a wonderful place to find a community of like minded people of all ages to learn with and learn from. There is more to living sustainable than planting an organic garden, and building and nurturing a community of folks to share with is an important part. At D Acres there are opportunities to get to know your area neighbors at pot luck suppers, musical evenings, documentary movie and soup nights, craft and art classes, culinary magic and food storage classes. Working together in the gardens to learn organic gardening methods, creating out buildings from recycled and other materials at hand for the animals allow for a broad range of affordable of possibilities. Stewardship of the fields and forest are also part of the whole.

D Acres offers some great educational opportunities for novice and experienced farmers who are interested in small scale sustainable activities. Last weekend really found speaker Mark Fulford to be a wonderful teacher talking to all levels of experience. Food at the farm is great and when available produce, eggs and pork good buys. Check out the calendar of events at www.dacres.org to see what is happening. PS Also nice reasonably priced hostel if visiting NH.
