Old Orchard Emu

Welcome to Old Orchard Emu. We are a small family-operated farm in northwestern Frederick County, Maryland. Emu is our specialty and we also grow seasonal vegetables--sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, green beans, cucumbers and squash. Jim harvests hay for family-owned and boarded horses. We sell emu oil and oil products direct to the consumer from the farm, mail orders and the Carroll County Farmers Market, Westminster, Maryland.

Emu oil--it's a wonderful by-product of emu: a modern-day natural miracle that offers relief from pain and inflammation of injured tissues, bruises and arthritic joints; emu oil relieves pain from burns, reduces scarring and blistering, relieves itch and pain of bee stings and insect bites, a great moisturizer, relief for baby's diaper rash, discomfort of bed sores, and so much more.

The Australian Aborigines realized the benefits of emu oil when they wrapped oily emu hides over the pained area. Now 100% pure, natural emu oil is available in a bottle. Other skin care products with emu oil are available: hand lotions, facial cremes, lip balms, shampoo, etc.

We bought our first emus in 1993, began hatching emu eggs in 1994 and continued hatching chicks for 22 years. The yearlings were processed at a USDA facility and we offered the healthy, red meat, as well as emu oil and oil products to the public via home sales and farmers markets. Emu meat is nutritious, delicious, lean, low fat, farm raised and free of added hormones or antibiotics. It's a healthy red meat and endorsed by the American Heart Association. No longer hatching chicks due to age and meat processing issues, so meat is not availablefor sale; and oh yes, we do miss the great taste and nutrition of emu.

Our pure emu oil is still available. Pure refined emu oil is a 100% natural, nutritional supplement for our skin. We offer the emu oil and products via farmers markets and direct mail-order sales.

Did I mention our pygmy goats, chickens and a few cats. Wrangler appeared one summer day in 2023 and adopted us--there's always something happening at Old Orchard Emu and it is "down-home country!"
