Locust Hill Farmstead began its Journey in the fall of 2017, after moving from our urban homestead in Milford. Prior to moving to Honesdale, we got a taste of growing our own vegetables, raising chickens for eggs, and cooking from scratch as much as possible, but it was not enough. We wanted to be more self reliant and not depend on our grocery stores in order to survive. Although you can homestead just about anywhere, where we lived, did not allow us to expand and have livestock animals, as well as expand our growing area and plant an orchard which is one of our goals. Since then we have expanded our garden and we learned many homesteading skills that will allow us to offer some seasonal produce and eggs for sale. We did not have the intention of our homestead being a local business where our customers can find quality, clean, GMO and chemical free food, but after doing it for ourselves, I think it is important to offer people more options and be able to sustain our lifestyle. Plus, in turn educate and also learn from others along the way. Our eggs come from chickens and ducks free ranged on pasture and feed them non GMO feed. We also grow fruits and vegetables organically without the use of chemicals. We are currently raising rare breed chickens such as Silver Gray Dorkings which are in the endangered species list. We plan on hatching and selling their eggs to keep their breed from becoming extinct. Our plan in the future is to also raise dairy goats as well as baby goats. For now, please contact us this spring through early fall to try some home grown produce and support our goal to continue offering chemical free food.
