Tuckers Farm has been growing produce for 100 years! Grandma and Grandpa moved the family up to the farm from Toledo in 1919. Mom and Dad began farming together in 1939 on 55 acres. We took over in 2002 and our daughter is now the 4th generation, growing vegetables on the same family farm for 100 years and counting!
The farm is now 10 acres and we grow a wide variety of produce, including tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, asparagus, raspberries, blackberries, cucumbers, watermelons, squash, beans, cabbage, and okra.
We eat what we grow, so we are customers too! We understand the importance of a clean and healthy food supply. We limit our use of any chemicals and instead rely on natural and sustainable growing methods! Spring of 2011 we were verified by the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (for more info www.maeap.org). Soil and water conservation practices we employ on the farm include crop rotation; residue, nutrient, and pest management; wildlife habitat management; windbreak establishment; composting; filter strips along the drainage ditch; and drip irrigation.
With the help of two large hoop houses we are able to provide spinach and other greens through the winter.
We have a roadside stand conveniently located on our farm. We also sell our produce at the Bedford and Toledo Farmers Markets. We go to the downtown Toledo Market through the winter months as well.
