Kaleidoscope Vegetable Gardens is a sub-acre urban market garden that goes a step beyond the basic principles of the local food movement by minimizing the use of fossil fuels or electricity, while still producing a wide variety of vegetable crops. Accordingly, high tunnels, low tunnels, row covers and other passive, natural methods of season extension are used. In keeping with our philosophy, crop selection is tailored to the season. Accordingly, spring and fall crops are primarily composed of cool-weather greens such as spinach, kale, Chinese cabbage, mache, claytonia, swiss chard, beets, beet greens and lettuce. Summer crops include baby okra (red and green types) and miniature Japanese and Indian eggplants. In winter, the garden and the gardeners obtain a well-deserved rest. Find us on Wednesdays, April to November, at the Saskatoon Farmers Market.
