Maple Cornbread Biscuits

Ingredients:

½ C cornmeal
1 ½ C flour
½ t salt
1T baking powder
½ t cream of tartar
2/3 C butter room temperature, plus 1 T melted
2 t maple syrup, plus 1 T maple syrup separate
2/3 C milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Lightly butter a baking sheet and set aside
  2. Stir together cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. Cut in room temperature butter
  3. Whisk together 2 t maple syrup and milk. Stir into four mixture until evenly moist
  4. Place dough on floured counter, knead lightly until dough comes together, about 10-12 times
  5. Roll to an even ½ inch thickness. Cut out biscuits with floured glass or 2 ½ inch biscuit cutter
  6. Place on prepared baking sheet
  7. Whisk together remaining syrup and melted butter, brush over biscuits
  8. Bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with more syrup glaze
