Ingredients:
½ C cornmeal
1 ½ C flour
½ t salt
1T baking powder
½ t cream of tartar
2/3 C butter room temperature, plus 1 T melted
2 t maple syrup, plus 1 T maple syrup separate
2/3 C milk
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Lightly butter a baking sheet and set aside
- Stir together cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. Cut in room temperature butter
- Whisk together 2 t maple syrup and milk. Stir into four mixture until evenly moist
- Place dough on floured counter, knead lightly until dough comes together, about 10-12 times
- Roll to an even ½ inch thickness. Cut out biscuits with floured glass or 2 ½ inch biscuit cutter
- Place on prepared baking sheet
- Whisk together remaining syrup and melted butter, brush over biscuits
- Bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with more syrup glaze
