Rustic Red started in Spring 2014 as a way to share my love of heritage poultry and delicious, colorful and naturally grown produce with my community and the surrounding area. In October 2013, I began to carve a small farmstead out of a larger property that has been in my family since the 1850s. The farm land had been in conventional production and unoccupied for years. Currently, most of the land is still in conventional crops. However, all of the produce raised in my farmstead garden is grown using organic methods. I have a small flock of Buckeye, Dorking, and Risdian Orloff chickens that are fed certified organic feed and homegrown produce and are allowed free range most of the year. I also keep American Buff and Shetland geese and Saxony ducks. I am licensed to sell eggs. Chicken and duck eggs are available during much of the year, and goose eggs are available in the spring. Customers can purchase eggs directly from me or online through Macomb Food Co-op and OakTree Organics. In addition, Buckeye and Saxony duck hatching eggs are available through prior arrangement. Interested parties should contact me directly to make arrangements for hatching eggs.
