The Old Minnesota Homestead is a small start-up farm in Palo, Minnesota which is in Northeastern Minnesota. We purchased this land two years ago. It is comprised of 12 acres of field, forest, and a creek. We are committed to working in harmony with nature and will never use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers. The emphasis is on building up our soil using the no-till method. We will be growing a large variety of vegetables, herbs, and berries and will be offering CSA shares. The focus is on growing heirloom, rare and unique varieties of vegetables such as Grandma Roberts Purple Pole Beans. We will be establishing an orchard this summer and have put in an order of fruit trees including apple, plum, and cherry as well as berry bushes including blueberry, cranberry, lingonberry, and honeyberry. Next summer we will be establishing honeybees on the farm and offering honey.
Our CSA will offer one large weekly box of fresh-picked vegetables, herbs, and berries throughout the summer. We offer fifteen weekly bushel boxes from May to September depending on the growing season for $300 a share or every other week for $150 a share. Bonus boxes may be included depending on harvest yields each week. Included in your box will be recipes using that week's harvest. We will be putting out a newsletter and posting to our website information about happenings on the farm. Visit our farm and see where your food is grown. If you enjoy gardening, you are welcome to come to help us to develop our permaculture homestead. Weekly boxes can be picked up at the farm on Saturdays and Sundays. We are also delivering to the following towns on Sundays: Virginia, Chisholm and Hibbing.
