Rock River Farm is a small, diversified farm tucked in the Hiawatha National Forest outside of Chatham. The property was first cultivated by a Finnish family who built a homestead and a small strawberry farm. The stones gleaned from the first plowing of the fields form the rock walls that line the property and shelter our gardens and livestock paddocks.
When we began farming the land in 2009, all that remained of that original strawberry farm was the walls. Today, our farm is a vertically integrated system that works with the land and seasons. Our approach, which includes responsible stewardship of the land, thoughtful use of resources, and organic growing practices, help us produce quality, nutrient dense food. In just over two acres, we cultivate over fifty varieties of vegetables and greens. Six hoop houses enable us to practice season extension techniques that yield melons and artichokes in the U.P.s famously harsh climate.
We raise pastured poultry and pork, and butcher humanely on-site. Our compost utilizes waste from local fisheries and is mixed with wood chips from a local wood mill. We use the compost on all of our gardens.
Rock River Farm is now offering Farm to Fork Catering, available July-September. We will work with you to provide fresh and unique dishes for your event. Farm fresh flowers are also available for events and weddings.
